Once upon a time, Grandfather (Dyedooshka) planted a turnip seed, saying, "See that you grow big and sweet! See that you grow big and crunchy!" So, the turnip grew and grew until it was very big indeed. One day Dyedooshka went out into the garden to pull up the turnip. He bent down and tugged and pulled and he pulled and he tugged - yet, hard as he tried, he could not pull it out!

So, he called for Grandmother (Babooshka) to come and help him. Babooshka tugged on Dyedooshka, and Dyedooshka tugged on the turnip - yet, hard as they tried, they still could not pull the turnip out!

So, Babooshka called for granddaughter (Vonooshka) to help. Vonooshka tugged on Babooshka, Babooshka tugged on Dyedooshka - yet, hard as they tried, they could not pull the turnip out either!

So, Vonooshka called for dog (Sabashka) to help. Sabashka tugged on Vonooshka, Vonooshka tugged on Babooshka, Babooshka tugged on Dyedooshka - yet, hard as they tried, they could not pull the turnip out!

So, Sabashka called for cat (Koshka) to help. Koshka tugged on Sabashka, Sabashka tugged on Vonooshka, Vonooshka tugged on Babooshka, Babooshka tugged on Dyedooshka - yet, hard as they tried, they still could not pull the turnip out!

So, Koshka called for little Mouse (Meeshka) to help. Meeshka tugged on Koshka, Koshka tugged on Sabashka, Sabashka tugged on Vonooshka, Vonooshka tugged on Babooshka, Babooshka tugged on Dyedooshka - and with a great, mighty tug - out came the turnip!
